Donovan's Adventure & How It Came to Be
Nancy Lambert Davenport will entertain you with a presentation of her book, Donovan and the Big Hole, a children’s novel written from the point of view of a boy with Down syndrome. Donovan's summer starts out as a humdrum time that leads him to a wild ride down a flooding creek, with only a shovel for a paddle. Before the year is out, he and his friends manage to learn some science and Texas history, solve a crime, and save a man’s reputation while they are at it. Nancy’s son, Austin, who is now grown, inspired her to share through this book, the value and charm of having a person with Down syndrome in a family and as a friend. In her presentation, Nancy will discuss the adventures of raising a child with disabilities into adulthood where he successfully lives on his own, holds down a fulltime job, and gets married. This presentation is available for student or adult groups of any age.
Elizabeth Bacon Custer "Knew Her Man"
Nancy Lambert Davenport taught high school history for several years, a subject dear to her heart. Especially drawn to women in history, Nancy will review the autobiography of Elizabeth Custer, wife of the infamous General George Armstrong Custer. The self-effacing, Mrs. Custer, an accomplished speaker and writer of many books and articles, relentlessly dedicated her life to redeeming her husband’s reputation after his controversial defeat at Little Big Horn.
