AUTHOR VISITS
CROSS CURRICULUM IDEAS
After reading Donovan and the Big Hole to students:
- Art lesson: Have each student illustrate some part of the story. Use the resulting artwork for bulletin boards or classroom, library, cafeteria, and hallways.
- Art/graphic design lesson: Allow students to design new cover art for the book.
- Computer lesson: Let students search for information about Nancy Lambert Davenport or her son, Austin Davenport on the internet. Research what Down syndrome is.
- History lesson: Research what Stephen F. Austin contributed to Texas history
- Science lesson: Research how laid paper was made in 18th century America. Research how else to use a fulcrum and lever.
- Weather lesson: Research causes and results of flash floods in Texas.
- Creative writing lesson: Create and write about an additional adventure that Donovan has with his friends.
