Nancy Lambert Davenport grew up in San Antonio, graduated from the University
of Texas, and married her high school sweetheart, Dick. They married in 1966 in
San Antonio.
She taught high school English several years in Texas and northern Virgina from
1966 through 1970 before they began their family of three children who are now
grown.
Their youngest, Austin, works for DocuCorp, International in Dallas.
He is an artist and some of his work is displayed on this site. Austin has Down
syndrome and as he says, "I am happy with my life". He also loves to be on stage and has been in performances with the
Garland Theatre group, Garland, Texas. He also is an accomplished dancer. Liz, their middle child thrives and
works in Washington, D.C., and with The Advisory Board Company assists member health care companies in strategic decision making. Richard, their oldest thoroughly enjoys
everything about old books and genealogy while making a living as a landlord
and working with a home and commerical materials retail giant.
From 1979 to 1984 Nancy was a teacher of infants with disabilities in San Antonio
and Lubbock. Her first work with infants with disabilities was with Brighton
School in San Antonio which she and Dick helped open with several other
wonderfully creative families. She now enjoys informally working with families
of kids of all ages as they express a need.
Nancy has served as the President of the Down Syndrome Guild of Dallas and is
on boards of several other organizations in Dallas and Richardson, all of which
impact young people, with and without disabilities, in some way.
From 1989 until 2000 she wrote a weekly newspaper column on parenting -- often
with a slant toward parenting kids with disabilities. She enjoys traveling,
reading, writing, and collecting rejection slips from publishers for her
yet-to-be-published book(s), How To Raise Kids to Be Organized.
She recently had an article in Focus on the Family's Senior Wise Magazine.
Nancy is also interested U.S. Cavalry posts in Texas, such as Ft.Davis, and Ft.
Clark where her father was stationed as a Cavalry officer.
